SOLITUDE IS NOT LONELINESS
Are you a person who can comfortably sit in a crowded restaurant or cafe completely at ease with yourself, savouring a meal or sipping a coffee and sitting with your thoughts without feeling the need to fill the silence?
As a young woman in my 20’s I was that person, and I must confess I still am. It was almost unheard of in the 80’s for people, let alone a young woman to sit at a cafe and enjoy a coffee or lunch while reading a paper or book.
You see it wasn’t loneliness, instead it was solitude mixed with a healthy dose of confidence.
It was me carving out time for me. It didn’t happen all the time, but I know that rest, reflection and recharging can only be done alone.
It takes a certain type of person and confidence to do that. Someone who is not afraid to sit with themselves and enjoy the quiet contentment that comes with that.
Don’t get me wrong, I love company, I love socialising, I love traveling, I love meeting people, but I also know the value of recharging, deep reflection, quiet time, self-care, and reconnecting with myself.
In a time of constant connection, perhaps gift yourself some time to enjoy happy solitude, and when you choose company, surround yourself with those who uplift, inspire and genuinely care.
“Be your own muse, and know that
solitude creates richness in yourself and your life.“
